Applying virtual simulation technology into day-to-day marketing and operations is a subject matter; both LTI Business Solutions and Invoke Media Group will be delving deeply into for 2021.

Who Would Have Thought My Son’s Gaming Addiction Might Pave the Road For His and Everyone’s Future?

From making informed decisions for flying a commercial airline during a storm to properly managing a hostage situation to calculating the best angle for throwing a game-winning touchdown, virtual reality and simulation technology are taking the forefront in the next generation of training. Verizon has turned to VR training to give their employees the knowledge needed to make smart decisions during high impact situations. Verizon has teamed with STRIVR Labs to help train their staff via a virtual reality experience in which the user finds themselves robbed at gunpoint.

During this training, Verizon staff face incredibly dangerous situations without the risk of physical consequence. During the simulation, a pair of gunmen enter the store, take a hostage, and shout instructions to the employee at gunpoint. In a situation like this, smart decision-making can be a matter of life or death. As the simulation plays out, employees have a selection of options to choose from as their next step. The employee never leaves the virtual experience, thus forcing him/her to manage the situation.

Simulation Training Provides Vital Benefits for High-risk, High-impact Situations

Meet Osso VR, a surgical simulator that is taking the medical community by storm and developed by  Dr. Justin Barad. Before he became a surgeon, he was a video game programmer.

This breakthrough virtual simulation software helps medical students hone their skills by operating on virtual patients, using surgical instruments found in an operating room. For trained surgeons, it helps decrease the ‘unpredictability factor.’ During surgical procedures, surgeons obtain ‘on-demand’ information through a virtual headset. (Gone are the days of asking residents to Google surgical techniques).

Surgical Performance Indicators

Osso VR has built-in analytics that will objectively measure a surgeon’s performance during a procedure. This feature will allow surgeons to enhance their surgical skills by acquiring useful feedback. Imagine the improvement of surgical outcomes when surgeons can identify precisely where there is room for improvement during an operation?

Enter Multi-Player Mode

The application of gaming multi-player technology is remarkable. Osso VR software offers virtual collaboration. Users can create a virtual operating room where multiple surgeons can operate as a team. Each user brings their knowledge and skill for others to learn while acquiring new methods and experience.

Night Shift Training Simulation

Schell Games has developed Night Shift, an Emergency Simulator game used for training. Studies have indicated doctors who play Night Shift outperform those who do not.

This game lays out all of the nuances of being a physician in the ER and the day to day decisions made under pressure. The game places users in various scenarios, based on his/her decision-making. If a player offers a misdiagnosis and the result is death, the player experiences a virtual encounter with the troubled family and breaking the news to them.

NASA Is Getting In On the Game

NASA is currently working with Level Ex technologies to implement simulation and scenarios that will reveal physiological and anatomical changes to the body while in space. It will also lay the groundwork for virtual simulations that will teach astronauts how regular medical devices behave differently in low-gravity scenarios.

The human body and even medical devices change while in space. The length of time, in outer space, impacts these changes. Meaning, the longer the period in low-gravity, the changes are more severe. A software that can simulate physical changes over time can allow for a more accurate diagnosis of an astronauts’ medical condition while in space.

Not Just For Astronauts and Physicians

Airlines have been using pilot simulation training for years. Commercial flights have increased substantially. The new technology allows for pilots in training to navigate airport markings, takeoffs, and landings, crosswind landings, holding patterns, instrument approaches, and more. CloudFlyt is a new software that immediately adds new missions and changes conditions, that pilots in training need to make on-the-fly (no pun intended) decisions.

Simulation training once revolutionized how athletes trained. To prepare for the Olympics, the US Olympic Ski Team trained using simulation technology. Football quarterbacks and NHL hockey players have taken advantage of virtual training. Today’s advanced software incorporates engagement data, performance analysis, and predictive modeling, allowing for real-time data, thus taking VR to the next level.

Get On The Virtual Bandwagon

Game simulation technology is exponentially expanding our access to real-time data. Having access to virtually ‘real-time data and outcomes analysis’ provides our astronauts, pilots, and medical doctors with knowledge to make better-informed decisions. Surgical results are improved; astronauts can manage their medical health more accurately, and air travel is much safer.

Corporations would serve themselves well to embrace the future of virtual simulation. With studies already indicating improved job performance and productivity, this is a boat not to miss. The application of virtual simulation to on-the-job and customer-service training is limitless.
